Instructions for the Authors

Each volume of the Italian Journal of Anatomy and Embryology (Archivio italiano di Anatomia ed Embriologia) consists of 4 issues.
The price of the subscription for one year is € 93 for Italy and € 124 for foreign countries. One issue € 26 for Italy and € 31 for foreign countries.

Submission: Only original papers dealing with the entire field of anatomy, histology and embriology of vertebrates, especially mammals, should be sent to Prof. G. Gheri, Dipartimento di Anatomia Umana, Istologia e Medicina Legale dell'Universita', Policlinico di Careggi - 50134 Firenze.
To assure widest possible readership, only papers in English will be considered. All papers are subjected to editorial review.

Arrangement: papers typed double spaced with wide margins are to be submitted in duplicate. Also the figures and tables should he submitted in duplicate.
The first page of each paper should indicate the title, the author's names (initial name and full surname of each author), departmental and institutional affiliation, full address, number of telephone and fax for receipt of proofs, off print requests and correspondence. Immediately following the title no more than six key words must be supplied for subject indexing. A summary which should be analytically informative, not exceeding one page, and free of abbreviations and references, should complete the page.
The text is to be arranged in the following section “Introduction”: should be clearly explaining the purpose of the research; “Materials and methods” should be presented with all information useful for possible repetition of the experiment. “Results” should include presentation of all experimental data and a description of original observations. The points where the illustrations and tables are to be inserted should be indicated in the manuscript. “Discussion” should report general considerations and conclusion of the research. “References” should include only those publications which are cited in the text, and should be arranged in alphabetical order.
References must include the surname and initials of the name of the Author(s), the year of publication, the full title of the paper, the title of the journal abbreviated according to international nomenclature, the volume, the first and the last page of the paper as follows:
Haider S.G., Passia D., and Hilscher W.: (1985) Morphological studies on the fetal and postnatal development of the rat Leydig cells. Acta Endocr. 108 Suppl., 267, 98-99.

Monographies and books will be referred to surname and initials of the Author(s), the full title, the publisher, place and year of publication, as follows:
Matthews DE, Farewell VT: Using and understanding medical statistics. Karger, Basel, 1985.
When articles included in a book are quoted: the surname and initial of Author(s), title of the article, the word “in” followed by the surname and initials of the editor of the book, the title of the book, the publisher, the place and year of publication and page number, as follows:
Cottingham S.L., Pfaff D. Interconnectedness of steroid-binding hormones: existence and implications. In: Gauten D., Pfaff D.: Current Topics in Endocrinology, Vol. 7, Morphology of the hypothalamus and its connections; Springer, Berlin 1986, pp. 223-250.

Citations: In the text names of Authors must be followed by the year of publication. In cases in which there are more than two Authors, only the first one is named, followed by “et al.”. All papers cited in the text, and only these, are to be listed under References.

Page charge: Authors should be charged for pages, illustrations and tables; the printer, before typesetting, will send by fax or mail a quotation of the full cost in charge of the Author. If requested, the Editors may fournish a pro-forma invoice.

Reprints: Each publication will be allowed 20 reprints charge-free. Supplementary copies may be ordered to the printer, who will submit a quotation.

Reduction to printed size: The Author must indicate clearly on each illustration the reduction desired, bearing the following in mind:
Submitted line drawing cannot exceed 28 to 36 cm. Lettering and labels must be readable after reduction; when printed, an individual illustration or group of illustrations should non exceed the dimension of 29 cm. long by 6 wide; Significant reduction of microphotographs may significantly affect magnifications. A graphic scale on the figure is recommended. In order to speed up phototypesetting and text corrections, the Authors may send their text stored on 3,5 inch discs or on a CDrom.
Texts should be in MSWord format, tables in Excel format; high resolution images in TIFF format.
